VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering at LTSC

LTSC is one of the friendliest, busiest and most active sailing clubs in the UK.

As well as running race series and events throughout the year for dinghies and cruisers we also have an enviable reputation for our ability to host and manage major National and International open events, whilst at the same time keeping our Clubhouse, Grounds and impressive array of sailing support equipment in tip top condition.

All of this is made possible by the support and dedication of our members who volunteer their time, when they can, to carry out the many and varied activities that a busy sailing club has.

These roles range from pouring pints to painting doors, displaying flowers to driving RIBs, running races and arranging events, plus many many more.

The help and involvement of our members is vital for us to maintain our position as one of the South Coasts most vibrant and fun clubs and we believe that if each member contributes some of their valuable time across the course of a year we’re well placed to continue to thrive.

We’ve summarised some of the key areas where you can get involved below. Don’t worry about your experience level. If you already have some expertise in a particular field we’d love to hear from you. If you haven’t, don’t worry, one of the great things about LTSC is that we’ve a whole host of members with a wealth of experience and knowledge who are more than happy to help you build your skills in whichever area appeals to you. It’s what makes LTSC such a fun place to be - getting involved and helping each other is at the core of our Club and it’s quick and easy and enjoyable way to meet and get to know fellow members.

So, if you’d like to drive a RIB, run some racing, pull a pint, meet and greet visitors, or serve doughnuts at our world famous open events, find the activity that you like, click on the link and it will put you in touch with one of our Activity Ambassadors who will get you started at Getting Involved!

Get Involved with Sailing

The sailing program at the Club is extensive with Dinghy Racing, Saturday Sailing and Cruises.

These needs a variety of volunteers from Race Officers through, administrators to safety support crew.

You do not have to be experienced, we offer training in all roles.

In addition to helping, it is a great way to meet other members and see how the club operates.

You can volunteer online or for more information please contact the Office.

Get Involved with Property Maintenance

Monday Club is how these volunteers are known.

An aptitude in DIY is an advantage as our Monday Club help keep our buildings and grounds looking their best. There’s always something to be done, from changing a light bulb through to more ambitious building projects and there’s always plenty of coffee to drink.

Whatever your skill set, many hands make light work, so if you’d like to get involved helping our property maintenance team please contact office@ltsc.co.uk

Get Involved with Sailing Events

The Club runs a number of prestige sailing events each year. These are supported by the regular volunteers, but need more help, particularly on shore based roles for example greeting visitors and taking entries.

The Sailing Office will send our requests for this additional help nearer to the events, but please contact us if you wish to find out more.

Get Involved with House & Social Events

You can get involved as much or as little as want in the Club’s social activities. Volunteering at any level is a way of making friends and developing skills. For some ideas see below. If you would like to explore any of these options further please contact Emma at the LTSC office or Jane Stroud, Social Committee.

For example:-

LTSC Social Committee Member – for those who like to plan and co-ordinate.

Recurring events organisers - e.g. winter talks, weekend walkers, monthly quizzes – for those who would like an ongoing role, but do not necessarily want to be on a committee.

Help with particular activities - e.g. flower arranging, taking money on the door, decorations for events, moving furniture, helping behind the bar. Place yourself on a rota or make yourself available on a database so you can be called, but can choose when you want to get involved.

Get Involved with RIBs and Sailing Equipment

Our sailing activities rely on a small band of dedicated volunteers who ensure our safety and race equipment is kept in A1 condition.

They look after the care and maintenance of our support RIBs and trailers, our motor launch Fortuna, our racing marks, our tractor, as well as our Committee Boat ‘Baverstock’ out in the Western Solent.

If you have basic mechanic skills or electrical and electronics knowledge, we’d love to hear from you. In any event, if you want to get involved and help please contact office@ltsc.co.uk
