As I write my comments for the upcoming Telltales between Christmas and the New Year I look outside to see thick fog. The light winds have been a feature of the past few weeks and look set to continue into the New Year.
However there has been the conclusion to the winter series of dinghy races along with the Prize giving evening with the Bond theme. All was a great success as was shown of various pages of Facebook. I was at the prize giving and saw a multitude of disguises attributed to James Bond. A fantastic end to a very successful year on the water.
The Yacht cruisers also celebrated a great year at sea with
the final cruising supper. A pantomime was also played out
which was written by Marion Ford Hutchinson. The evening was a sell out and everyone enjoyed themselves. Our thanks to all those participants. An auction was also held for the needles relief trip on the lifeboat the proceeds of which go to the RNLI.
Throughout the festive Season all out events have been sold out well in advance. It is very satisfying to see the success of the Club going from strength to strength.
A downside of the period is the serious hacking of our website which I am sure many of you will have seen. I sent out an email regarding this issue and I have also reproduced it below. “You may have noticed that our website has changed in every way. This was because our old and well loved site was severely hacked in the run up to Christmas. Our Host for the site then shut the whole account down including our e-mail system. Our members, Ben George, Rob Martin, Keith Willis and Tony Evans along with Craig Lefevre have spent a lot of time recovering the situation and we have the beginnings of a complete new site. This will be developed to become an even better site with a more modern layout. Our e-mail system is now fully functional as well. Out thanks go to all those involved in the resolutions and we ask you all for patience while the development takes place. Since then more work is taking place on a daily basis and you will soon see the full functioning and populated web site.
You will also have seen the initial notice of AGM to be held on 4th March 2017. Further notices will be posted in the New Year and 3rd February is also important date for your diary when we will be holding a question and answer session in the Solent room.
Some of you will notice that the AGM is a little earlier in the year than in 2016. This is due to the planned refurbishment of the Solent room, stairs and entrance lobby.
As of the 6th March 2017 the Solent Room will be closed for approximately 31⁄2 weeks whilst the works take place. This will include new carpeting and decorating throughout. We will be opening the Lower Deck Bar during the works. Access to the office and lower deck bar will be through the changing room entrance so please take note of the code for entry. Further updates on the plans will be given as we approach the month of March.
I hope you all have a Very Happy New Year
Rick Underhill, Commodore
